Rayon yarn export of China in Jan-Apr posts a y-o-y decline of 32%

According to customs data, rayon yarn export of China decreased by 37% year on year to 6.128kt in Apr 2024. Among them, the export of single yarn was 4.854kt, with a year-on-year decrease of 40%, and that of ply yarn was 1.274kt, with a year-on-year decline of 21%. The exports of rayon yarn in Jan-Apr posted a narrower year-on-year decline of 32%, with the volume retreating to the level of 2017.

In Apr, the export of rayon yarn to the five major countries (Brazil, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam) was 4.785kt, with a year-on-year decrease of 41% and a month-on-month decline of 13%, accounting for 78% of the total volume. The export to Brazil and Bangladesh dropped noticeably, and that to India recovered somehow, but the volume was still very small.

The main origins of rayon yarn in Apr were Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Xinjiang, and Sichuan, with an export volume of 5.344kt, a year-on-year decrease of 40% and a month-on-month decline of 10%, accounting for 87% of the total export volume.

Rayon yarn export in Apr continued to shed on yearly basis, and the volume of Jan-Apr has dropped to the level of 2017. The spinners reflected fewer foreign orders against the backdrop of high sea freight in May. The export to India recovered on monthly basis, but the quantity was still small. In conclusion, rayon yarn export market is still under bigger pressure this year.
